You can improve your sleep easily

As far as we are aware all organisms sleep. But have you ever watched your cat fall asleep easily and wondered if you could do that? Have you had a spouse or partner who can be snoring (hopefully not too loudly 🙂 ) the second their head hits the pillow? Why does it come so easily to some, and is such a struggle for others?
But fear not. You can improve your sleep with a few simple tricks and tips, all of which you can do right now to make your life easier.
CNET shared an article this week with some great, easily actionable advice.
Most of these are common sense activities you’ve probably heard about. We’ve probably even spoken about them here at Sleepy Time Tales, but they bear repeating.
So let’s take a look
CNET’s 8 Tips to Improve your sleep
1: Stick to a strict sleep schedule
This is one I struggle with personally. And I’m sure I’m not alone. After a long busy day especially I want to stay up for some “me” time. But this is a really bad habit, as your body has a natural circadian rhythm.
If you struggle with sleep, this is a good bet for better rest. The trick is that in order for your circadian rhythm to work, you actually need to get into a rhythm. That means going to bed and getting up at the same time every day (yes, even on weekends).

2: Limit napping
Happily one I don’t struggle with. These play with your circadian rhythm, especially if they’re more than 10 or 20 minutes. And you will be too well rested at bed time.
3: Wear the right clothes
Being constricted or sweaty will make you sleep badly. So nice fitting clothes of natural fibres are the way to go to improve your sleep.
4: Keep it cool!
You might think a warm environment is the way, but studies have shown that cooler environments win out for a restful sleep, as it stimulates melatonin production. Plus it’s an excuse to snuggle down nicely.
5: Put the phone down
If falling asleep is the problem getting away from screens, especially your phone’s blue light. Of course, your may be listening to Sleepy Time Tales episodes on your phone. But turn the screen off when you’re settling down and you should be good.
6: Your pillow is critical
Proper support for your head and spine will help you fall asleep, and improve your sleep.
7: Limit food and drink
An active digestive system will unsettle your sleep. Stop eating a few hours before sleep. And cut caffeine off at least 6 hours before bedtime to really improve your sleep.
8: Try natural remedies
If you’re struggling to drift off, a little natural something like CBD oil or a herbal tea may help. We’ve spoken about bedtime teas here at Sleepy Time Tales, and I’m a fan of a rooibos before bed myself.
Conclusion
So I’ve run through the basics, but the original article has more detail for you to take in, as well as some excellent further reading. So please go take a look.
